Hooking up my computer to my TV screen

January 22, 2011 at 17:04:44
Specs: Windows Vista, Dell Studio
I have a Dell Studio and i want to hook it up to my older style TV so that i can use my laptop on my TV screen. I have tried both a VGA to RCA as well as a HDMI to RCA and plugged it into my TV, but nothing comes up on the screen. Also when i plug them both in, nothing happens on my laptop screen even when i push the External Display button. It just tells me that no external display is attached. I was wondering if maybe i was doing something wrong or if i needed a different cable for it to work. Thanks.

That type of TV connection might not support plug and play used in modern TV's and screens. What might be worth trying is booting the PC with the tv attached, then going to display settings (right click on the background, personalize) and select "display settings".

From there, check and see if the TV has been detected, select it and set up windows to use it as an alternative monitor.

Hope that this helps!
