Specs: Windows Vista
My 14 yr old has crashed 3 laptops and at least 2 desktops by downloading CRAP from anywhere and now some of them won't even turn on and some of the laptops that do turn on freeze and just go to a blue screen! I know they are full of worms and viruses and if I reformat will that clean them up and if I reformat do I need to purchase a new windows program OR will my disks from HP work to renew the hard drives? I am hoping the disks I got from HP will work.. I bought a new HP laptop and after 6 uses the hard drive totally wiped out so HP so kindly replaced the hard drive with a blank one and then they sent me the windows boot disks and the driver disks cause I did buy it with windows on it and I was not going to pay for a new windows program unless I absolutely had to (my husband is very cheap and doesn't want to pay to fix all these computers) so I am gonna try hopefully you guys can help me

Unless the other laptops are HP, there's a strong probability that what you propose won't work. Most OEM distributions of Windows are tied to the manufacturer of the machine, and won't install on other machines (such as Dell, Acer, etc.) without some serious "hacking" to keep them from checking the make of the machine.

Also, just'd probably get more responses by posting this in the appropriate forum.

You should be able to return it.

One of the benefits of buying from a large company that they usually provide a way to return the system to OEM state. You may have to buy media for a nominal fee in some very limited cases but usually there is a way to make media or use a F key at boot to fix it.

The problem you have is that there is no control on the system.

Put a strong admin password on it and make only limited user accounts for the kids and yourself.

Consider using your home router's features also to limit junk.

Put on a good security suite also. At least ms security essentials.

Get a good hosts file too.

Uses and hard drive wiped out are not the deal here.
