I really need to get serious legal documents off my laptop. What do I do, from what i read its looking bad.

Interesting read...
An example of a Toshiba backdoor password is, unsurprisingly, "Toshiba." When the BIOS prompts you to enter a password, entering "Toshiba" may allow you to access your PC and clear the old BIOS password. Another option is to hold the left "Shift" key down while booting.

You may be able to remove the drive and read the contents on another machine, if the drive is NOT encrypted. Otherwise, have Toshiba repair fix it.

Thank goodness you made backups of important work.

I might be tempted to use a live cd to see if you can access the drive.

I suspect you won't be able to. Some of those toshiba's are pretty secure. Never heard of one doing it on it's own like that.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
