Have to disable Norton Antivirus to run Word

April 10, 2011 at 13:38:00
Specs: Windows Vista
I cannot get Microsoft Word to open unless I temporarily disable Norton Antivirus in my Norton Internet Security. I have used the Norton Uninstaller (as recommended by the Norton Website), I've run a Live Update, and my setting in NIS are set to "off" in the Microsoft Office Automatic Scan. When I try to open Word my computer locks up and I have to manually shut down, but when I temporarily turn my Antivirus setting to "off" Word starts up immediately. I am using Windows Vista and Microsoft Works version 9.0 (2007). I was recently automatically resubscribed to Norton and updated to 2011. I can't remeber for sure if the problem existed before or after that but it's possible it started around that time.

I's sorry to hear that you continued your subscription to Norton. Had I known, I would have suggested otherwise.

There should be some exceptions list, in Norton, to allow Word.

Odd. Word is normally allowed. I guess it could have been updated. There should be some setting to allow programs. Norton has changed how they let the user find that area on each version.
