Have 2 questions in reference to a 4GB SDHC card

Specs: Windows Vista
Hi,

Question 1: I want to completely format and 'empty' a 4GB SDHC card to NTFS to use for Vista?

Do not want to card to have system files left on or placed onto it and do not want it to be RAW.

Please can you help?

Question 2: Also want to enable the same card to run a program during bootup for Vista?

Recently, sent an e-mail message to J T Technologies to ask how to do this.

Received a reply stating that I must place onto the card the following files: BCD, BOOTMGR, HAL.DLL, NTOSKRNL.EXE, WIN.COM

I placed these files and Malwarebytes Anti-malware onto card, as an experiment, to see if it would run during bootup!

But, of course, it did NOT work and an error message was displayed.

So, I contacted J T Technologies to ask the following question:
"What other drivers and/or files do I need to place onto the SDHC card together with the ones already placed onto 'it'?‏‏".

The next day, in response to that question, I received the following reply:

"(A program) will not run unless you load Windows first then install the program".

I then replied with "Why do you need to place the Vista operating system onto a SDHC card when it is already installed?".

In response I received the following message on the same day!:

"You don't need to install Windows you need to load/bootup Windows and install the software in Windows by double clicking the .exe file".

But, as yet I have not responded!

So, even though I have not responded, yet, that question still stands!

What do you think? I look forward to your reply!

Thank you from

Mr Berwyn H Price

It would help to know which specific application you want to install on the memory card.

In most cases though, applications cannot be installed on to a memory card. That location will not be available in the install options.

You need a "portable" version of the application if you want to run it from a memory card. Portable version doesn't need installing.

Hi phil22,

Thank you for your recent reply to the second question "Want to enable the same card to run a program during bootup for Vista?" of my "Have 2 Questions In Reference To A 4GB SDHC Card" post.

Also, I will answer your question "It would help to know which specific application you want to install on the memory card":

When I stated "want to enable the same card to run a program during bootup for Vista?" what I meant to state "want to enable the same card to run any program during bootup for Vista?"!

Also, you stated "In most cases though, applications cannot be installed on to a memory card".

But, I am not convinced because there is a post entitled "Installing Programs to SD/SDHC Card on Windows XP" on the eeeuser.com website which I have read but have not tried yet.

This is because it states "Unfortunately this fix will often report the size available to the program being installed as the free space left on the SSD. Thus refusing to let the installation take place" and I am 'looking' for a safer method to use.

Have also read on the internet methods for placing Windows 7 and 8 onto a SDHC card to install. I feel, or think, that the same method can be used to place any program onto said card for it to run during bootup!

What do you think? I look forward to your reply!

Thank you from

Hi Johnw,

Thank you for providing me the link in response to the first question "I want to completely format and 'empty' a 4GB SDHC card to NTFS to use for Vista?" to my "Have 2 Questions In Reference To A 4GB SDHC Card" post.

But, I have NOT found anything that provides an answer to the above mentioned question, yet!

So, I am asking, please, could you provide me with a more specific link that sets out a method or procedure? For instance, the proper method or procedure using Format in Command Prompt for Vista - I cannot remember - ?

Thank you from

Mr Berwyn H Price
