You need to make sure there are XP drivers available for your hardware before you undertake this. You also must realize, that if you're planning on getting rid of Vista entirely, you'll generally have to reformat and reinstall XP; reformatting will cause you to lose all programs and data from your drive (make sure you back up the data first and have the installation disks for your programs---after making sure they'll work with XP).
