Folder and files disappeared from USB drive

Specs: Windows Vista
I plugged my USB drive into my computer, opened a document and worked on it for a bit. Then I copied some files from my computer to my USB and, after copying a couple of files, the folder I was copying them into disappeared.

I tried using the shortcut on my recent Word documents to get to one of them but it says that the file could not be found.

I really don't understand computers. Help.

Have all the files disappeared or just the recent ones ? If all the files have disappeared, then File Allocation Table might have been damaged. You may have to use a File Recovery program to recover your files if they are important for you.

This may happen when a file is being transferred to/from USB drive and the USB drive connection is momentarily lost or disrupted, due maybe to loose connection in USB port, whatnot.

Flash drives are not that good for important data. It could be any number of reasons too. I'd maybe try a new flash drive and see if it fails like that also.

Might try testdisk/photorec to get data back if it can get it.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
