Explorer doesn't work

Specs: Windows VISTA

I have a laptop which worked just fine for about two years. About 6 weeks ago Skype stopped working after I did an update. Then, about one month ago Explorer stopped working. I cannot get either to work, even though I am connected to the Internet. I would appreciate any direction you could give me as to how to resolve the problem. Thank you very much.

You can uninstall and reinstall the Skype, and also try other web browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc), see whether it helps. Also scan your computer by using antivirus/anti-malware program with latest signature, just to make sure no virus/malware infection.

If it's network problem, you can use this ping tool to troubleshoot.

Thanks so much for the reply. In the end, it was Norton (even though it was no longer active, it was still in the background blocking my access to both Explorer and Skype).

I appreciate the help, though.
