Solved downloading photos from camera to computer

August 6, 2013 at 14:48:30
Specs: Windows Vista
Ok, now I have access to "computer" and can't get photos downloaded to my puter, either by san disc or plugging the cord from camera to USB. USB is working cause my keyboard is in the port.
In checking Device Mgr. and clicking on all what's its message says working properly. Camera is a Canon. I was able to downolad photos before but not lately.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Well, I finally figured it out. The little button on the side needed to be down instead of up, on the camera that is. I had it in picture taking mode, not view mode. The camera was given to me by a cousin and not like the old one I had that died . Thanks for all your thoughts, it was just something simple that I stumbled across.

What does device manager show when you plug the camera into the computer? Does your camera show that its connected to a PC when you hook it up to the PC?

Please provide model of camera, and make/model of PC in reply.

Normally you can plug the camera in via USB, go to Computer, and the camera will be shown there. So when you checked Device Manager and "clicked on all what's its message says working properly" - what exactly were you checking?

Last.. You can also view scanners and cameras by going to Start (orb) -> Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> View scanners and cameras

Thanks.

Camera is Canon Power Shot A540 and I have the disc to load the software. Device mgr. only shows printer.
AMD Athlon 64 X 2 dual core processor 4400
2.30GHz
3.00GB
32 bit operating system
Windows Vista
I was looking in Device to see if there was a card reader per following a question about this, that I Googled up. When I plug into USB nothing comes up.When I click on desktop, and open EOS Utility (software that came with camera) the choice to start download photos isn't highlighted and does nothing. Can't find anything under removeable devices.

It sounds like your USB ports aren't functioning properly. When you try this, are you trying the USB port that the keyboard is plugged into? Or alternate ports? (e.g. if the keyboard is plugged in the back of the computer vs plugging the camera into the front USB ports)

Puter is about 6 years old and I don't have any USB's on front. But yes, I plugged in the camera to the one I use for my keyboard and get no response what so ever.

The A540 doesn't need drivers for Vista, so it should be automatically recognized.

Have you attempted to hook this up to another workstation to see if you get the same results? May have a bad cable, especially if you plugged into a working USB port.
