Disc Read Error

Medion / Akoya

Specs: Windows 7
Hi all, so I have a Medion Akoya laptop and the warranty recently expired so I don't really want to waste a whole heap of money calling them up to ask what's wrong,
One day I decided to turn my laptop on (like most people would) and it came up with a black screen saying Disc Read Error, and it said to press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart. I did that, and it came up with the same screen over and over.
Today I put in my recovery disc that restores everything to factory settings but then it failed to recover!
What should I do? Thanks!

Please be aware that if you use the factory settings cd you will lose all data.

When you say it failed to recover did you get any error messages.
Or were there any error messages or numbers when it failed to read the disc

'Today I put in my recovery disc that restores everything to factory settings but then it failed to recover!'

1- What do you mean by recover?
2- how exactly did you do that?
3- Do you have windows 7 or vista as they are both listed in the specs area.
4- Did you tap f8 on startup and click on 'repair my computer?'

"Please be aware that if you use the factory settings cd you will lose all data."
Yep I am aware of that and I've got most things backed up now because I recently restored back to factory settings around a month ago so I made copies of everything and put it on a USB hard drive.

"When you say it failed to recover did you get any error messages.

It just had the number three.. then on the line below that it said REOVERY FAILED.

1. Restore back to factory default settings, as in wipe everything and have a new start.
2. By putting in a CD that came with my laptop.
3. Yeah I have Vista...?
4. Nope, should I have?

I don't think I was doign anything wrong becuase I've restored it before, the problem isn't that it won't restore back to default factory settings, the problem is that there is always a disc read error.

Anyhow, I tried it and seeing as when I started up it didn't say F8 would do anything, I pressed it and nothing happened.
