Changed CMOS battery with new one, no matter what I do will not start. Dell logo appears, boot f12 then straight to automatic ide configuration page ask for a long ago forgotten password.
Changing the battery removed any password & reset the BIOS to the defaults. Your system doesn't have an IDE HDD, it has SATA. You need to reconfigure ALL the BIOS settings. http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/...

I thank you for a very speedy reply to my problem. But my desk top will not let me do anything at all.
This is a common problem with Dells. Google "automatic ide configuration page Dell" for a large number of suggestions. Likely as not you just have to configure the BIOS having lost the configuration when you changed the battery.
