Create shortcut to do 2 processes?

Hey you whiz-kids,

Does anybody know if there's a way of creating a shortcut that will first KILL an instance of a program running, and then run another?

I want a shortcut that kills "wlmail.exe" and then RUNS "wlmail.exe" (I know it sounds crazy but I have my reasons).

All I've managed to do based on my knowledge is create a shortcut that kills it. I did this by creating a shortcut and typing the following:

C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /f /t /im WlMail.exe

However, is there a way of then, IN THE SAME COMMAND LINE, having it reopen the "wlmail.exe" program? So the one shortcut does it all for me?

I don't hold a lot of hope out for this, but anything you could offer would be appreciated!

How about a batch program or script to perform multiple tasks. Then you just run it.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

See, you've lost me there! I don't know how to create a batch program. Can you advise me on how I would create one that does what I've said??

Thank you!

A batch file is just a series of commands. In your case the first line would be that given for your shortcut, the second one is what you would put in another shortcut to start wlmail.exe

Pop these two in NotePad and save it as a .bat file. Double click it to run it.

There are little niceties you could add but the above is the principle.

Hi there,

Thanks for all your help! I created a batch file with the following:

start C:\Windows\System32\taskkill.exe /f /t /im WlMail.exe
start /d "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail" wlmail.exe

And it works beautifully!

Thanks again - you really helped me out with this.

Well, you and Google.

All the best,
