Computer won't boot past Gateway logo

February 27, 2013 at 05:38:17
Specs: Windows Vista
Computer wouldn't boot at all, and I found a solution to unplug, press start button to drain and then plug back in. This worked several times, but now won't go past logo.

"I found a solution to unplug, press start button to drain and then plug back in"

That is not something that normally has to be done so you didn't actually fix the problem, all you did was find a temporary work-around. More than likely your power supply has failed. That's fairly common for Gateway/eMachines systems due to the poor quality Bestec power supplies that are used. If you want advice or suggestions for a replacement, we'd need to know the exact model/model number of your Gateway.

Thank you - are Gateway power supplies an expensive item to replace?

How can I be sure that the power supply is the problem? Is there a way to tell?
