Computer Slows Down, Disk Usage 100%

Specs: Windows XP
Running home Vista. For a few weeks now, usually when I am on the internet, the computer slows to a crawl and Norton window pops up saying "High disk usage" and blames it on RUNDLL32. When I go into processes on task manager I see two RUNDLL32's running and I see the CPU percentage jumping around as high as 100% then back down. I sometimes can right-click on both of them and close them out but that's a bandaid solution. I ran a virus check, and also a windows malware check and neither found anything.

You could use msinfo or msinfo32 to see what is started or go to sysinternals for some special apps to diag it or try using the performance monitor log to get more data.

Might be more simple to do go back to OEM state with a clean install. The install some good protection suite, update all service packs and use only a standard/limited user account. Follow that with a good hosts file and then create a image of the good start point.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
