Computer pwrs on, no display, does not boot?

September 17, 2010 at 08:39:50
Specs: Windows Vista, 4 GB DDR2
Gateway DX 4200-09
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit w/SP1
ATI Radeon HD 3200
AMD Phemon X2 9100e Quad Core
4 GB DDR2

When I start my computer the blue power button light flashes and I hear the harddrive and fans start. After a few seconds, I hear one short beep and then the light turns solid blue. After that, there is no display on the monitor.

I inhereted this computer, so I don't know if anything has been done to it. I believe that the bios is set for quick boot, so when it works there's no display until the log in screen pops up (which is something I'd like to change, but that's another matter).

I've verified that the monitor works by hooking it up to a working computer. I've also hooked up another working monitor to this computer for the same result.

I've disconnected the power cord and the power supply from the mobo and drained power by holding down the power button for 30 seconds. After that I left everything disconnected overnight, and the next morning the computer acted the same.

I reseated the ram sticks, tried removing one or the other, but nothing changes.

Sorry if any of that was irrelevant, just trying to cover all my bases.

Thanks

"I've disconnected the power cord and the power supply from the mobo and drained power by holding down the power button for 30 seconds. "

This does nothing and fortunately has no negative effect either.

Sounds like the video card has gone bad.

Quick boot will still give you a bios summary screen before continuing on to boot the OS.

I have the same problem. I tried the RAM chips then I changed the whole motherboard and it's the same problem. It has to be the CPU or the case I'm guessing anyone get this working?
