Run msconfig & go to the startup tab. If it's there, uncheck it.

Is this scan "Error checking" which is checking your disk? If so look at the beginning of this process as you have a few seconds there to cancel the scan.

What is scanning??? Is this at the very beginning when the computer is first turned on or does this scan begin running once windows has loaded up? Can you boot into "Safe mode with Networking"? To get into safe mode....when you first power on the computer tap the F8 key a few times.....should bring up a black screen with menu choices....select safe mode with networking. Answer YES to the question that pops up and report back with answers to our questions and we can better help you...if you have not solved the problem. Is this Scandisk running? An anti virus scan? any info will help. Merry Christmas!
