My computer was working one minute and black screen the next. Saying "reboot or install software and reboot" my whole system was gone. I did everything I knew. Nothing happened. I bought the system (used) with software already loaded. But have a Windows XP program from an old computer I no longer have. I attempted to load. Nothing. It wont let me use the software. Do I need to call Microsoft for the registration. Or is there something else I can do. I had Windows Vista on the computer. Can I recover my system?!?!?!?
"...I did everything I knew. Nothing happened..." ... ya I know what you mean "sometimes it's best to do nothing"
"...Saying....reboot or install software and..."
... I do know "Advent" (laptops) have that option with a recovery partition to boot!
... it might be handy if you posted your pc model make and numbers....... thx

Kind of hard to say. I would have suggested that you borrow someone's Vista DVD and use it and it's repair tools to try to fix. Now that you attempted to load xp I can't say what is the state. I guess you should still try to borrow any retail dvd and maybe some of the OEM dvd's for Vista or maybe Windows 7 and boot to the repair feature. Vista would be the best choice to start with If it can find a Vista install then you may be able to fix it still.
You may be able to fix with a F key at boot. Download owners manual for how to recover it and any options you have like buying a new set of disks from the OEM for a small amount.
Your attempt to fix it may have been the worst choice.
