I was restoring my laptop "ïts a Compaq presario V3000" back to factory settings when it started to restore it came up with a error mgs "it had a problem installing click ok to to restart and reinstall ":i clicked ok it came up with the same msg again i clicked ok again it restarted and all i got was a black screen .The power light is on and the fan is running but thats all it does
It seems that the factory restore partition is damaged. Have you created recovery disks before ? If not, you should contact HP and obtain recovery disks for your model ?
One thing you may try to do before the above advice, boot your computer to safe mode command prompt, if you can, and give the following command:
C:\Windows\System32\rstrui.exe ( I assume Windows is on C:\ )
If this command ( Windows system restore ) works, you may return your computer to an earlier time before the event that made you opt for restoring your computer to factory settings.
Hope the above helps.

Thanks but when i started it up this time it wont let me do anything now :-( I have tried tapping F9 on start up but to no avail
Is it not F8 that you must tap to boot into advanced boot options menu ? CoolGuy
I tried tapping F8 and someone also suggested F10 as well but still nothing so i tried my recovery discs from my desk top pc which is also a HP Compaq and it started doing something but after 5 minutes it said that the discs were not the correct ones and couldnt finish the recovery so does anyone know how i can get the correct ones for my type of laptop ?
