ok. i created a short-cut for my d drive on to my desktop.
i ended up deleting it and then deleting it from the recycle
bin. it is now non existant. what can i do to recover it
already tried restore but the dates were not back far
enough.

Deleting a shortcut to a drive, doesn't delete the drive. The drive is still there.
Click start, run, type diskmgmt.msc
Is the drive listed?

it is there, but every time i click on it it says application not
found. when i put in a disk it doesnt recognise it at all. any
other ideas would be much appreciated.

Look at the device manager. Are there any yellow or red marks next to it?
