Cant uninstall SP2 beta

June 15, 2009 at 17:01:24
Specs: Windows Vista, 2gb
i just downloaded the latest update to sp2 from M$ and went to uninstall the beta release (v.113 KB948465), however, i get an error along the lines of 'unable to uninstall, a rollback will be performed'

My pc then reboots, but my pointer is missing, and my mouse and keyboard dont work. Ive tried old ps2 keyboard and mouse, and theyre not recognised either, even after fiddling with every permutation in the bios.

1st question is....how do i get my mouse back working again, and is the fact the pointer is missing to do with that?

2nd question....how the hell do i get rid of this beta release properly? i dont want to go through this whole scenario again!!

thanks in advance

You can start with Vista disk and do a repair of your Vista installation.

Boot to your Vista disk ( if you have one ) and select Repair.

SP2 uninstall routine may be corrupt. Try to install SP2 again and, if asked to uninstall or repair, do whatever you prefer to do.

Hope this helps.

suatcini...i cant do that as my keyboard and mouse still dont work!!

ive since noticed that when i start in safe mode, i dont see any instance of mouclass.sys, or kbdclass.sys drivers loading, so im imagining thats where the problem lies.

like i say, i have a ps2 keyboard & mouse plugged in with legacy support turned on, and it doesnt recognise them either.

how do i get round this?
my keyboard works when first booting up, enabling me to select the OS (dual-booting) and safe mode etc, but as soon as thats done, it doesnt work

You did a repair install of Vista and that did not solve your problem.

That is strange.

This may mean that your file system is damaged and some of the system files fall in the damaged part on the hard disk.

When this is the case, reinstallation of Vista over the old installation may attempt to rewrite over the existing files, some of which may be on the damaged portion of the hard disk. Therefore, repair installation was of no help.

For this reason, you must do, in safe mode command prompt, CHKDSK /R /F to straighten out any hard disk sector damage problem provided you can use your keyboard in safe mode command prompt and then repair install Vista.

If you still cannot use your keyboard, then you must start over and full- format the hard disk and install Vista.

ok...they've suddenly started working now!!!

i just left my pc on overnight and when i checked this afternoon, my pointer was there and everything works!

what i have noticed tho, is that under device manager, my keyboard and mouse are detected as HID rather than wireless, and when i reboot, it always says it has found new hardware (wireless kbd & mouse), but i just cancel the driver search in case it screws up again:(

so....to my main point....how to get rid of sp2 beta?

would trying to uninstall in safe mode make any difference?

Since your mouse and keyboard is working, do as instructed in Response Number 3. You said in Response Number 4 that you could not do it because your mouse/keyboard was not working. Now you can do it.

well, none of the solutions worked, and even help from M$ themselves failed to solve the problem, their response was 'it looks like you will have to re-install vista'

..which i did, except it was an nvidia evolution edition, i already notice it running better and faster than normal vista and havent had a single problem with drivers, unlike M$ buggy as hell tripe os!!
