i have had this problem before and the best thing to do usually is to reformat thedrive and reinstall vista otherwise locating the error of the blue screen can be quite frustrating and time consuming, maybe pluggin the hdd in a desktop pc and using tools to recover your data and then reinstalling vista would be a better option

The blue screen of death, is one of the most notorious error messages in Windows based operating systems. To fix blue screen errors, you can safely assume that there's something going seriously wrong in your operating system.Right after the BIOS
screen, you repeatedly press F8. If you do get the Safe Mode menu, you
should have options for repair.
If you still face the same error then format the hard drive, After formatting your data will be lost then use the Stellar Windows data recovery software. It can recover lost data from formatted hard drive.

Thank you for replying. But the problem is that it won't do anything. I have tried to press the F-keys but it won't load anything- it won't even read a cd to reload vista or any operating system. It is a Intel Pentium dual- core desktop, 4 GB system memory, 500 GB hard drive with a dvd-burner that has lightscribe technology. It also has HP photosmart essential and Intel graphics media accelerator 3100. Don't know if this information helps but I also just recently downloaded the software for the lightscribe cd label maker. Thank you for any help you can give.
