Cannot enter password in welcome screen

Specs: Windows Vista Home Premium

I tried to replace a system file. since it was protected, I had to disable the UAC and take ownership of the file. since I did that, I can no longer access my account. the computer boots, I have the welcome screen with 2 accounts displayed, and when I click, instead of showing the password dialog box, the screen turns blacks and goes back to the welcome screen. I can not find a way to type the password and log on. Help please!

Would you mind telling us what system file is it that you have replaced and why?

sure. I tried replacing USP10.dll because of an application that crashed and the event log indicated that file was the issue. I did not actually replace it. I disabled the UAC, I took ownership of the file via the some commands, I copied a "clean" file from another computer, and I was about to try replacing it in Safe Mode when the problem occurred. when logging into Safe Mode, I could not access the password box, and I had the same issue with the Normal Mode. hope this helps. thanks

Boot to vista DVD and try repair.

If not then you need a live cd to access the correct file and replace it.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I tried that but it did not work. I tried restoring an image using True Image but since my computer is setup with Raid I have problems rebooting the machine. My problem is described here Right now I have not found a solution.
