Can you connect Sony Vaio to external screen before startup?

December 15, 2011 at 17:25:17
Specs: Windows Vista
My laptop screen is broken and the laptop will not load up properly.

So, I need to access BIOS via F8 on startup to try and repair the laptop, but I can't see what I'm doing!

I've been using my laptop on the TV fine up until now but it only connects once I've logged in.

Is there a way to connect the laptop to an external screen during startup on a Sony Vaio?

Thanks

You can try to see if it will work from full power off.

The usual way is you have to access bios blind to change to external monitor. Much easier if you have an exact similar model.

actually I do have a newer, similar model! but I'm not an expert with using BIOS so I'm not quite sure what to do.

do you know the steps to change to external monitor from BIOS?

thanks for your reply!

When I say you have to do it blind I mean you have to type keys in at the correct time and in the correct order to change bios. You don't need to be an expert but you have to have some way to know time and order. Like walking out of a 10 story building blindfolded.

Use the similar one to practice on. When to access bios may depend on looking at other indications. Such as keyboard lights, hard drive lights or even time monitor begins to activate. Then you press the key to access bios. Then you arrow over and select the choice to change from internal video to external display. It is not easy but I have done it many times.
