can I use the recovery disk for Compaq SR5501

Specs: Windows Vista, 1 GB
can I use the recovery disk for Compaq SR5501 on my compaq C751NR? The harddrive has to be replaced on C751 and I have no recovery disks for it. I do have the disks for the SR5501. Both computers are running Vista but the SR5501 has a Antheon dual core processor while the C751NR has a Pentium dual core. I can'r copy the harddrive since it is destroyed. If the drivers won't allow it to work..can I install them some other way? If not I can install XP to get it going, maybe then I can use the recovery to get Vista??? Thanks, Bob

It is highly doubtful that a Compaq SR5501 recovery disk would work on a Compaq C751NR. Even if it did work it would not be legal. The OS in an OEM PC is tied to that computer and cannot legally be transferred to another.

Contact Compaq and see if you can obtain replacement recovery disks.

I don't believe there is a legality issue since the computer is a compaq which had all that already on the hard drive. They only charge for s&h since the copyright has already been directed to the unit..the Vista product code is labeled on the unit itself.
