Specs: Windows Vista, Amd phenom quad core 64 bit
How do I...I see this error message when i come back to my computer. I turn the power off and then on and it boots up o.k. It takes a long time, but it does run. i usually log off and then when I come back. It shows this error message. i have run the restore disks twice, but this message keeps coming back. I tried to run check disk, but it got stuck. i tried to defrag, overnight, but the next morning. i saw the same message. I have restore discs but not a system disk.

It does that when windows cannot boot off the hard drive, sometimes because: 1)someone has left a floppy in the diskette drive 2) a bootable cd is in the cd/dvd player. If those 2 aren't the issue, then it may be a good idea to test the hard drive itself. Download seatools from seagate and test the hard drive. If your hard drive is failing you may want to back up any important stuff. Do the long generic test.

This works on most any drive...does not have to be a seagate hard drive.

It won't do much good to restore to a bad drive, so we check that.

I downloaded seagate tools. It wouldn't run the short test. it said test unavailable, but it did run the long generic. It passed once and failed once. here is the system logLong Generic - FAIL 11/6/2011 9:06:46 PM
Sense Key: 0x0B Sense Code: 0x00 Sense Qual: 0x00 FRU: 0x00
Long Generic - Pass 11/6/2011 9:36:58 PM. The short generic passed. So is my hard drive good or is there a bad sector. If it is good what's the next step. Thanks
