Block IE8 delete browsing history on exit

February 18, 2011 at 11:23:15
Specs: Windows Vista
Ok i have a employee at work that sets the computer to automatically delete browsing history every time he gets off the computer. I want to block this feature directly on Internet Explorer. I use windows vista and IE8. I use the computer every day but i am not a techie so i would appreciate the directions in "idiot terms".lol

Thanks in advance!!

You could just ask him to stop deleting the history. He could go into InPrivate Browsing, which will delete his browser session and should keep all non-InPrivate Browsing information.

You can also disable InPrivate Browsing and ability to delete browser history via the Group Policy editor. Go to Start > Search bar > type: gpedit.msc

Direct yourself to Computer config > Admin templates > Windows compoments > Internet Explorer
> InPrivate > Turn off InPrivate Browsing > set to Enabled
> Delete browsing history > Turn off "Delete browsing history" function > set to Enabled

Those were the steps for Windows 7, and I'd assume Vista would be very similar.

well im guessing something isnt correct cause when i seach for gpedit.msc in the search bar it pops up a new IE window and says "internet explorer cannot display the page" the web address it gives me is "http://127.0.0.1:4664/search?q=gpedit%2Emsc&flags=68&s=izbjbFrL0wKdZvjSJRLqrXk9sDQ"

any other way you can think of??

You can directly open it from C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc
