HI there,

At first please make sure you dont have any cd/dvd in your drive. Then if you want to restore your system to factory default then you can do it by follwoing few simple steps.

Turn on your laptop and keep pressing ALT + F10 key until you see a message on screen Window is loading files...once you see this message sit back and wait for instructions to follow and choose restore system to factory default when option appears.

I hope this will helps you.

"black screen with a dash line "

This means there is no master boot record.

Correct response should have been to go into recovery options.

Doing a factory reload of your system means all your data is lost.
If you have data you need I suggest you stop immediately and take it to a repair shop skilled in data recovery.

This happened to me after a factory restore. I remembered that I upgraded my video card and had to remove it and plug my monitor back into the on-board video. I restarted again, and Windows XP came right up and I haven't had a problem since.
