Solved Acer Aspire x 1200 doesn't come on

March 4, 2014 at 10:37:15
Specs: Windows Vista
I was gone for 2 months and when I turned on my desktop, only the fan came on and noiser than usual. No beep, no lights...nothing. I've tried unpugging, etc., to no avail. There was not a power failure to my knowledge.

Sounds like the PSU has developed a fault, not completely dead but not working properly. That's most likely where the unusual racket is coming from.

PSUs are not repairable, you'll have to replace it to find out if that's the issue.

Thanks phil22. After doing some other research, I suspected it might be the psu. Guess I'll purchase one and see if it does the trick.

You should be able to determine where the noise is coming from once you have the computer open.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

The noise is coming from the fan. It is much louder than before but no power anywhere else.

Which fan, the CPU fan or the PSU fan?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

The CPU fan is working and very loud. Nothing works (or at least it appears that way) in the PSU.

I'm with Phil, best guess is PSU. Strange about CPU fan noise but if the voltages are wonky that might be why.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
