You can't go backwards if you had Windows XP.. that is a security measure Microsoft put in the OS design is not to be able to roll back to an older operating system. So to answer your question, if your wanting to go back to Windows ME from XP, you need to wipe the drive completely and start over.

What size hard drive is it? It should show in cmos/bios setup.

If you want to downgrade to ME you should first verify the motherboard or system support site has ME support.

Although the majority seemed to hate it, I was a fan of WinME. It just needed a bit of tweaking to tame it. Unfortunately, most people weren't willing to make the effort.

What is the reason for going from XP to ME? There is no downgrade path. XP generally uses the NTFS file system, WinME only supports FAT, so the drive would have to be completely reformatted to FAT32 which means all XP files & data will be lost. Which OS did the system orginally come with?

I doubt you'll be able to recover the previous ME install so you'll need a full version ME or maybe 98 installation cd to start with.
