Miss DLL files?

June 16, 2009 at 07:56:59
Specs: Windows Me
I keep getting message that DLLfile,WINSPOOL.DRV is missing. Scans at variuous sites claim they cannot install because SETUPAPI.DLL could not be installed. Another stated that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\drivers\tvichw32.vxd could not be found. I have a Dell computer, am not really a computer genius, and could use any advice. I can not even get my "RESOURCE CD" to work. I have the windows ME cd, but that does NOT install drivers, and though I tried re-installing, that to had a glitch. Thanks for any and all help.

According to this:

it should be on your ME installation disk. The extraction method there--using SFC in msconfig--should work but the 'replace file from' would be the WIN9X (I think that's what it is with ME) on the ME cd.

Reinstall what? The dll file, windows ME or something else?

Whether it's related or not, you need to remove all the norton and symantec stuff from your computer. They're resource hogs and eventually ALWAYS cause problems.

Bah, humbug

SFC (System File Checker) won't run in Windows ME - because it is only installed in Windows 98!

A backup copy of the Windows system files is normally located in directory C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS on the hard disk. The files are in .CAB (cabinet) files and can be extracted from a .CAB file using WinZip.

Yeah, I forgot about that. With ME you run MSCONFIG and choose 'extract file'. It works the same as SFC in 98.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
