|Did the old AOL program use a dial-up connection? If so, that's *probably* the problem. Go to Start > Control Panel (use classic view) > Internet Options, then click the Connections tab. If AOL is listed under "Dial-up & VPN settings", highlight AOL, then click Remove. Also, make sure "Never dial a connection" is selected, click Apply, then click OK.|
Check Device Manager > Network adapters to make sure your network controller is recognized & the drivers are installed. If it's not listed, go into the BIOS & enable the network/ethernet port. It's probably listed under "integrated peripherals" or something similar. When the system restarts, the drivers will either auto-install or you'll have to download & install the drivers manually.
