Specs: Windows Me, 933/382
Had to rebuild the machine and lost my old mediamatics dvd player. Is there any free players out there that will work on ME without having spyware or adware on it . Also have not been successful finding a free codec for Win media player 9 . Anyone point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Any other options that you know . VLC did not seem to work very good. Player would hang for some reason and its not real easy to use with all the options that has ,just want a simple player. I know options are limited with an old OS like ME . Still works good but it may be time to retire the old horse or convert it to a linux machine. I tried to convert it to XP once and the optical drives wouldn't work right, they would just dissappear for no reason and then maybe show up again if you rebooted and could not find any newer drivers for these LG drives. Put ME back on and they work perfectly.

VLC is a troublesome beast on Windows 9x because, although basic functions (i.e. play, stop) will work, any attempt to access the options in the program's menus will crash the player - and maybe crash Windows too!

One fatal fault lies in the instructions provided by VLC with the download. If you put the MSLU files where they tell you, they won't work! They MUST be copied to the directory in which VLC is installed.

Try installing Media Player Classic v6.4.9.0 or v6.4.9.1 for Windows 9x (MPLAYERC.EXE) by Gabest, e.g. from (it is an excellent media player).
