Drive Image: which image file?

March 29, 2009 at 14:20:14
Specs: Windows ME
I've gone round and round with the "Cmdninst has caused an error" message. I have spent 3 hours running ScanDisk and at the end it always goes back to that error message and when I click "close" I get a gray screen.

I've had this pc for over 6 years with little problem and many years ago I used Drive Image on 2 floppies. I can get through to the 2nd floppy to the Drive Image, Restoring an Image, Select Image File where it says: "Enter the image filename specifying the drive and directory.", but I have no idea where or which file I am looking for. I've never used this and like I said, I made it years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"...many years ago I used Drive Image on 2 ..."

... ok you used the two floppy's which I assume you booted-up with[?]

... now its asking where are the image file[s] you created years ago so that it can restore files o/s?

... did you create the image file at all?

... there are a few driveimage programs that are called by that name, do you know which one yours is?

... is it Power Quest?

... maybe this one?

http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-x...

... I am asking because the image files [if] created will have a file extension that you could find and navigate to.

... you could try booting to "safe mode" then use system restore to a date when the pc was working fine

I restored this pc last night when I couldn't figure out about the Drive Image, so this problem is over and this pc is unfortunately cleaned out of everything.

I know that now, but I didn't hear anything from here until this morning and I was getting impatient. Such is life. Safe mode and nothing else was working. Everything I tried took me back to the Cmdninst error message. The Drive Image (that was the logo name on the screen) was the only thing that was any different and I didn't know what file I was looking for.
