I just recently had to downgrade to windows 98SE because my windows XP was not working correctly, and i have no restore CD <_< So i was wondering, is there any way, (through programs, or basically hacking Win98) to run windows XP programs?
It's going to depend on the software. For software that doesn't run, earlier versions of it might. You're probably better of buying an XP disk and reinstalling that.
Or i might as well wait till windows 7. Is there a site to find old versions of software?
http://www.oldversion.com. There's a www.oldversions.com that masquerades as an old version site but has no downloads and only supplies some generic links.
If you google the specific software you're loooking for there's a good chance you'll find links to older versions.
Edit The oldversions site did give these two links to similar sites:
How about posting your system specs? Maybe your system isn't suitable for XP which is why you had problems? And if it's not good enough for XP, it certainly won't run Windows 7.
WEll, the windows 98, and windows XP are different towers. The windows XP one has:
256 MB Ram
2.0 GHz processorWindows 98 one has:
319 MB Ram
2.0 GHz Processor
Neither of those system will come close to being able to run Windows 7. And why so much RAM on the 98 machine & so little on the XP machine? 256MB RAM isn't enough to run XP decently. The 98 machine *probably* has 384MB with 64MB going toward the onboard video. If both use the same type of RAM, I would lower the amount of memory to the onboard video to 32MB, then yank one stick of RAM (128MB?) & put it in the XP machine.
And what exactly is wrong with the XP machine anyway, you didn't say?
There is a program called KernelEx that you can use to run XP programs in Windows 98. You can use it to run Firefox 3 in 98, for example. Here's the page for KernelEx:
