I have 2 ROM's on a Windows 98 OS. Neither Burn to disk, CD or DVD. They did before it crashed. I reinstalled Windows 98 and Nero as well, no luck! I only have 16 colors as well!
It will read Windows 98 CD, but no write right! Can you help?
Since you reinstalled Win98, you will also need to install the hardware drivers - chipset, video, audio, network, etc.
'No luck' doesn't tell us anything. Do you get error messages when trying to burn a disk? Did you install the nero from the disk that originally came with the burners? Ding dong the witch is dead. . . .
DAVE, Good point, "doesn't tell us anything." Message was "X:/ is not accessible. The Device is not ready." This is the same as when no disc is in the drive. I seem to have somewhat fixed the problem by downloading InCD software packet, it now writes on CD-RW now but still not CD-R .
Thanks
Mickliq, Thanks for clue. I am just having difficulty finding support software since system is so old and I don't have origional setup floppies (it still has floppy drive that does work). It is not online so can't directly download, rether using floppies I downloaded to. With InCD working, it will be simpler.
Now my problem is getting from 16 to 256 colors, any ideas?
Thanks!
Post back the motherboard model number or system model number if it's a Dell, gateway, emachine, HP or something like that. If you have a video card installed instead of on-board video then post back its model number.

InCd is normally part of Nero and is used to Copy/Paste onto CD-RW's or DVD-RW's, rather like a big floppy drive. If you have Nero there should be a burner icon on the desktop (or somewhere) to use for burning CD-R or DVD-R. With CD-R or DVD-R burning you normally get a Window to which you add the items you need, including creation of audio CD's - instead of using Copy/Paste. There was definitely a suitable Nero version for that OS and if necessary I can give you the version number.
It seems to me that you lost whatever burning software you originally had onboard during re-install - same goes for bad colors and lack of display drivers.
If all else fails google "cd burner software windows 98" you should find some freebies.
Please come back and let us know the outcome.
Thanks Derek, Solved the burner problem adequately with InCD !
Now am attempting to get more than 16 colors, and have no idea where to get drivers if they weren't installed wuith re-install of 98. Any sugestions? The computer doesn't go online, so can't directly access MS Web site for updates., What ever I do wh=ill ghave to go thru another computer using XP or else Vista !
Just wanted to make life more complex.!
Thanks DAVE, I tentatively solved the burning problem with InCD. Now I am trying to redo drivers to get more than 16 colors. I thought the drivers for more would re-install when I reinstalled Windows 98.

Hope I can find the drivers, any suggestions for 98?
Post back the info I requested in # 5 and we can find the video drivers that will give you more colors and higher resolution. Ding dong the witch is dead. . . .
Thanks Dave, I will open it and see what I can find. Can't do till weekend since use it for business software.
