windows 95 display setting problems

November 1, 2010 at 14:09:01
Specs: Win 95
In trying to change the setting for the display on a win95 machine I loaded different monitor types to get a better screen. I loaded one and not the computer starts up and shows a jittery unfinished screen that you can't do anything with. Anyone old people (like me but with more tech knowledge) with a clue on this and how to fix? Not tech enuf geezer...

Start in safe mode and remove the monitor type. Then restart and install the proper one.

Are you sure the problem isn't with the video drivers rather than the monitor setting?

I used safe mode to get back to where I was. I was trying to work around a driver but I guess that is what I need - I have a Dell monitor (4 or 5 years old) and an old Acer computer with the video on the motherboard. Any idea of where to get 95 driver for this?

First you need the correct driver for your video card. The driver may not support all display modes of the monitor.

Go to website for computer supplier or motherboard and see if they still have W95 drivers available. Sometimes the video driver is part the chipset drivers.
