I have this old Packard Bell machine which seems to be set on "enhanced mode". I cannot open various control panel items such as "system". There are no settiings that I can find in BIOS to change to a different mode, like "legacy". Any suggestions? Thanx

DAVE - When I try to open "System" e.g., in control panel I get a message that this option is not available in enhanced mode and I must switch to normal mode. I've never seen this before. I finally simply wiped the HDD and re-installed the O.S. (ME) and the problem went away. I would still like to know what, if anything, "enhanced mode" is and how to deal with it. Thanx

The only reference to a windows 98 enhanced mode I could find is the '386 enhanced mode'. But 9X always runs in enhanced mode

If your 98 was an upgrade from 3.1 it's possible it hung onto the standard/enhanced modes from there. Or the message may not be from 98 but from video drivers or some added software.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
