when xp begins installing about 5 mins into it, it brings up the hard drive with the partitions showing and any operating system it may already see (win 95). It is at that point you can delete the partition, then recreate a new partition, it will ask if you want to format the partition...yes and away you go.

Be certain first that your machine has enough "horsepower" to run XP. Many machines that run Win95 well may struggle with something as "hardware-demanding" as XP. Also, you may want to make sure you can find XP drivers if you have very old hardware.

As T-R-A mentioned, you probably aren't going to have enough horsepower in your system, not to mention hard drive space and memory. The average system back then had a 500 meg hard drive and 8 to 16 megs of memory, 64 megs if you went all out.

looks, even formatting your drive, you will need more space to install winxp, because a computer with win95 and occupies about 500MB winxp takes a lot more.
