Solved Quick Launch Bar for Windows 95

September 7, 2019 at 08:38:56
Specs: Windows 3.1/95 combo, Intel / 1GB
Have recently stumbled upon this web page:

http://almawardi.tripod.com/

referring to a certain SetupQL.exe file, which permits one to have Quick Launch bar (very useful!) in Win95, as in Win98 onwards, WITHOUT the need to install IE 4.0 or 5.0.

However, the download links on this page seem dead (seems to be a rather old page).

By searching a little more, I found this page:

https://msfn.org/board/topic/51521-...

which offered a link to another file, called QL95.zip, seemingly offering the same functionality as SetopQL.exe. Same problem, I cannot access that file for downloading.

Anybody having better luck than me in downoading these two files? Or anybody having these files from way back then? Or anybody having a clue as to how to implement Quick Launch bar functionality in Win95 (but without the need to previously install IE?).

Thanks, everybody!

Vetusware has it

The link you tried at http://almawardi.tripod.com/ gives the wrong location.

Have tried QL95 and can verify that it does quite a good job; for certain, one can have a Quick Launch Bar in Win95 without the need to install IE 4.0 or 5.0! I wonder why MS did not offer to the public an option to install Quick Launch Bar as a standalone application - but anyway, it's an old story... Though QL95 seems to have a couple of bugs on my system, at least it does implement the QLB function in Win95, which in Win98 was a standard...

" I wonder why MS did not offer to the public an option to install Quick Launch Bar as a standalone application..."

Simply because it wasn't a MS application...
