May 27, 2010 at 12:13:45
Specs: Windows 98
On startup, after a three-day vacation, I got the following:
DHCP MAC ADDR: 00 04 AC 58 AF C9

... boot into your bios disable anything related to "PXE Boot to LAN"

... make sure the bios can see the hard drive, if not sure find a "default" bios setting. (recheck PXE Boot is disabled)

... save settings on exit!

mavis007,
Thanks for the response, but I have tried that already. Did not help. I have a network card in there, could that be the problem?

Your system is configured to boot off a network...no network is present therefore you're getting the error message.

It could be that your CMOS battery is bad & the BIOS reset, thus changing the boot order. OR it could be that your hard drive died & your system is moving on to the next device in the boot order which apparently is the network.

Assuming you have a floppy, CD & hard drive, change the boot order to floppy, CD, hard drive. If there's another setting similiar to "other devices", disable it.

Thanks for the help mavis007 and jam. I was able to get my system started again. I reloaded the bios defaults and it works.
