PCG-FX150K RAM Problem

Specs: Windows 98SE
My Sony Vaio PCG-FX150K laptop has two slots for SDRAM; up to 512 MB total. Originally came with 128 MB each slot. System check only shows 126 installed; maybe 2 of the 128 is for video or the O/S. But with 2 time 128 should have close to 256 RAM. I just bought a 256 RAM module and installed it with one of the 128 RAM. Will only display the 256 RAM. Takes Low Density, CL2, PC100 memory modules. Assuming there is not a slot problem, is there a software fix to display max RAM installed? Thanks!

It's a hardware problem, not a software problem. Try different slots.

Have you tried the 256 meg stick by itself? I'm thinking the bios is seeing the 128 stick and half of the 256 stick. If so, the 256 stick by itself will read 128.

That would make it a density issue with the 256 stick.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
