OLD Compaq used for gameing only, will not start up.

Specs: Windows 98
I have a Compaq computer used for simple games only. It has not been online for years. It recently won't let us get back on the computer. It says it has been 151 months since our last upgrade. "There are many viruses since your last upgrade . . . . ." How can we bypass this and get back on the computer to play the simple games?

I don't recall anything to do with MS that would cause that message. It might be from a third party Anti-Virus program - can you shed any light on it?

If you find one on there you could either disable it or uninstall it. If you need an AV, Avast old version 4.8.0 still works on Win 98 (and updates) but I know of nothing else for W98.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

What have you installed lately? If your system isn't connected to the internet, the only way it could become infected would be by installing a game or program from an infected disc, floppy, or USB drive.

Yes, messages referring to "many viruses" are the sort of thing sometimes seen when there is some bogus anti-virus on your computer, or it is trying to make you fall for one.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
