Specs: Windows XP
if i install a CD onto the hardrive, does that mean i will only be able to use the program only with the cd. Or can i still use the CD on anohter computer without having it installed on the hardrive?

Your question is not clear. What type of CD are you talking about?

Do you mean if you install some software from a cd on one computer, can you install that same software on another PC using the same cd? If so, yes. The cd cannot be written to and therefore doesn't have any record of its previous usage.

However, if it needs to ba activated by the website of the company supplying the software then likely they won't activate it the second time on the other PC. And many software companies tell you to only use it on one computer even if it doesn't need to be activated. Of course, they're not going to know if it's used more than once.

Well, if you've already used it once, did you need to activate it? Or did one of those screens come up with a bunch of rules that no one ever reads and you had to click 'I agree' in order for it to install?

Or just install it and see what happens. The cd doesn't know if it's been used more than once. You can always uninstall it.

so i guess i have to take a chance, since there is no way of telling if you can install it more than once?

Besides the above I suppose you could consult any written instructions included with the software. But really, besides the ways I've mentioned, what else could there be?

I don't understand why you're acting so paranoid. Just do it. Then uninstall it if the fear causes you to wake up in the middle of the night with cold sweats or if you develop the urge to wear hats made out of aluminum foil.
