Solved install win98 on repart hd

Specs: win98, 533
put together generic from parts..was running fine with xp....wanted win98 instead...formatted...repartitioned (fat32 primary, 100%) formatted new partit...started install win98, it loads files, goes for the reboot..says startin wins for 1st time..kicks to..would u like 2 start os with cdrom support(weird) answer y or n and it sends u to command prompt A:(don't have a drive floppy installed...need help...also have copied files directly to the hd(c:) and then ran setup..same thing happens except then it dumps me into boot menu askin normal..safe..safe with cmd prmpt..u get it....anyhting guys

You have WAY too much RAM for Win98. Take out all but 512MB (less would be even better), then give it a try.

BTW, if you know how to use the torrents, XP (or any other OS you might want) is readily available.

You only want to boot from the cd when you first start the 98 installation. On subsequent reboots when it asks whether to boot from the cd or hard drive choose hard drive. If you boot from the cd again you're just starting over.

If for some reason it's still booting to the cd after choosing the hard drive option then when it reboots for the first time, go into cmos/bios setup and put the hard drive as the first boot device and then the cdrom.

When you do boot from the cd and it ends up leaving you at an a:\> prompt that's because the cd is creating a virtual drive at a: which it loads with some dos commands.

How big is the hard drive and how much ram is in the PC?

40 gig 2 1024's of ram and it didn't work boot is setup right...loads the files just fine..dir's all in place..xp was on it, and ran fine...but don't have a copy of it to try a reinstall....
