on another computer running win 98 i am getting a message stating
"a fatal exception 0E has occurred at 015F :00000013." Windows wont load after that.
i just want to clear the harddisc before i give away the machine. how can i do that when the machine refuses to start up even in safe mode?
What is the history of this computer? Did this error just start? Has the computer set for a long time without being used? Do you have any disks to restore Win98?
Hi OtheHill,
computer is very old and has been sitting without use for a couple of years
the error just appeared today when we tried to start it up. No the discs were lost a long time ago :(.
if i just go into dos and set it to format the entire disc will that be enough to clear any files that might have passwords or personal info in them?....i want to give the machine to someone else as they dont have one, but i dont want any personal info being left on it when i give it to my friend.
i thought of using one of those file shredding programmes like erasure, but the machine wouldnt read the disc so all i can do now is format it and hope that will be enough to clean out all the files, although i suspect it wont be enough!!
thanks for your help btw.
If you aren't trying to save the Win98 installation then I recommend you download killdisk and use it to totally wipe the hard drive. Get killdisk at the link below.
thanks for your help my friend. that worked perfectly for me. thanks again.
Glad to help. Thanks for getting back with results.
