how to install windows dos when my harddrive

how do i install windows 98 in my pc when it refuse to load windows because of the bad cluster inside the hard drive plaz anyone here to solved my problem

Before starting the install--when it's still at the dos prompt--type
SCANDISK/SURFACE C: and enter. That will do a regular scandisk followed by a surface scan and should mark any bad spots so they won't be used.

Even if they're marked the drive may not be usable if the damaged area is in the boot sector.

But yeah, it's probably a good idea to find another drive. Bad spots are like cockroaches--more will show up.

I was thinking, did you repartition and format the drive? Formatting should mark any bad sectors also.

DAVE/x86 are both correct about obtaining a new drive; and also if there's bad clusters on the drive now, there's gonna be more before too long---and trying to use the current drive would be risking the data that would inevitably get stored on those sectors/clusters.

Whether it is usable depends upon where the bad clusters are located. If it is in the partition table area it is not usable. Other wise you may be able to map a partition in a good area.
