Not sure what you are seeing. At the C:\ prompt type dir/p and list here what lines refer to windows. The /p switch pauses after each screen. Just tap the space bar to move to the second or subsequent screen.

Evidently there is no Windows 95 installed on that computer unless you have an additional hard drive installed and it is on it.

Post the model of the Gateway and perhaps we may be able to help you in some way. If the unit shipped with Win95 originally it is going to be incapable of running much of any newer operating systems or programs.

What was you intended use of the computer?

Yeah what happened was the previous owner did a FORMAT C:/S before giving it to you. That reformatted (erased) the drive and then copied the system files to it. The system files will give you the momentary 95 splash screen and then leave you at a c:\> prompt.

You'll need to get a 95 or 98 full version installation cd in order to get it running.

Just for info, W95 didn't have scanreg restore - it came along with W98.

Please come back and let us know how you got on.

mickliq

No problem, just a reminder. I'm also forgetting a lot that I once knew about those older systems. It's called overwrite memory LOL.

Please come back and let us know how you got on.
