1) Adding more RAM is one of best "bang for your buck" methods of speeding up a PC, but getting hold of the correct RAM for an old machine that uses RAM which is no longer being produced may be a problem.

2) You might also try defragmenting the C partition.

3) A fresh install of Windows can work wonders too, if that's possible.

The stark truth is, however, that the PC is way past it's retirement age and not worth struggling with if none of the above steps have any effect.

Hey, my car won't start - based on that info, can you tell me what's wrong?

Slow is a relative term. Please post the model number & specs to your Presario along with a detailed description of what's happening. If it's the original Win98 installation from almost 15 yrs ago, the wise thing to do would be to wipe the drive clean & reinstall Windows (or Linux) from scratch.

Type msconfig in the Run box (hit Enter key) then see what is showing in the startup tab. Sometimes there is a lot of unnecessary tat running in the background and un-ticking it can help. Google will help you find what things are and maybe we can help too.

You could also install CCleaner Slim which will get rid of some unwanted stuff:

As said, more info would help. I have a W98SE which still nips along quite nicely but it did have a new motherboard and CPU in its lifetime.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
