Why do you need the CMOS password to be able to bootup? To clear the password, unplug the power cord, open the case, find the Clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard, then move the jumper cap from it's normal position to the clear position. Wait a few seconds, then move the jumper cap back to the normal position again. Close up the case, plug it in, then boot up.

Is the computer a desktop or laptop?

The instructions above apply to desktops only.

A lot of those old gateway 2000s had a 'password enable' jumper on the motherboard. If you move that to the 'disable' position you won't have that problem anymore.

Real men don't use AntiVirus; they just reformat
