can't remember password on old laptop w/windo

Specs: Macintosh
lady gave me this old laptop. unfortunately she didn't know or ask for password to boot it up. She has moved and I can't locate her. Any help as to how, if possible , to get password.

Well if it's a windows 95 or 98 password (since that's the forum you're in) just click the password box closed and it'll continue loading. Windows 9X passwords are about user preferences and not security. If it's some other OS or some other password you need to provide more details.

Yes, as the other answers state, you can just click "Cancel" on a Windows 95/98 system - as the password is only to load a specific user account/settings.

If you by chance have Windows 95 or Windows 98 install disks, you might be better off reformatting it, unless you want the previous owner's files...

If all else Fails.. Restart the system and press F5 and go into Safe mods, you can try and redo the password or remove it as administrator. I can not rememberif windows 95/98 has this feture But it is a good try. Could not hurt

No administrator user with 98. As I mentioned above, 98 user passwords are about preferences, not security. And it'd be F8 not F5 to start up in safe mode.

And to remove those passwords you just delete the files in the windows folder that have a .pwl extension. Then on next bootup the password box opens and you can enter a new password or just close the box and have no password.
